What You'll Do

Each Task is built around a scientific figure. You'll use your domain expertise to create challenging questions that test how well advanced AI models reason about visual scientific information, and help show where they fall short.

How it works

- Work with scientific charts and diagrams from biology, chemistry, physics, and related fields. - Write questions that take real scientific reasoning to answer. - Work out correct answers and explain your reasoning clearly. - Evaluate how AI models respond and refine your work based on what you find. We'll walk you through the full workflow and quality standards during training.

What makes strong work

  • Careful, close reading of complex scientific figures.
  • Questions with clear, checkable answers.
  • Explanations a fellow expert could follow and verify.

Figures you might work with

Many kinds of scientific figures, including diagrams, plots, and visual data from across the natural sciences and engineering. If you have figures from your own lab, research, or coursework that you have the right to use, you may be able to bring them.

Who We're Looking For

Scientists who love reading figures closely: upper-level undergraduates, recent grads, master's and PhD students, and working professionals alike.

Requirements

  • A background in biology, chemistry, or physics, or a closely related field such as neuroscience, chemical engineering, electrical and computer engineering, or mechanical engineering.
  • Hands-on experience creating diagrams in scientific software such as ChemDraw, Ketcher, SimSmith, RStudio, MATLAB, or Geneious, whether in a lab, research, or coursework.
  • Strong quantitative and analytical reasoning: you can work through a multi-step problem to a definitive, defensible answer.
  • Precision and attention to detail.
  • Comfort using AI chat tools (no coding or ML background needed).
  • Must be based in the United States.
  • English proficiency, including speaking, reading, and writing.
  • Desktop or laptop running Windows 10 (or later) or a recent version of macOS. Chromebooks, Linux-based systems, and tablets (e.g., iPad, Surface in tablet mode) are not supported.
  • Work directly on your own computer. Remote desktop and remote access tools aren’t permitted.

Bonus points

  • Lab or research experience where you built figures yourself.
  • Access to current licenses for tools like ChemDraw or MATLAB (many universities provide them).
  • Experience plotting data with code (Python, R, or MATLAB).
  • Experience with technical writing, tutoring, TA work, or peer review.
