We are looking for a Co-Pilot / Operator to join our Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) data collection project. Working closely with the driver and coordination team, you will monitor the vehicle’s onboard systems, annotate real-world events, and ensure accurate data recording throughout each test drive.

This role is ideal for candidates with strong attention to detail, basic technical understanding, and the ability to maintain focus and consistency during long data collection sessions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Travels from Tokyo to North Japan
  • Continuously monitor system status, sensors, and data recording software during drives.
  • Identify and report any system malfunctions, data irregularities, or connectivity issues to the local coordinator.
  • Use a touchscreen interface to tag and categorize road objects and events such as:
  • Protruding or irregular objects
  • Road edges or markings
  • Car carriers and unique traffic conditions
  • Other relevant environmental or roadway occurrences
  • Data Handling & Backup
  • Manage storage media (SSDs, HDDs) during data collection sessions.
  • Operate data copying stations and verify that backups are completed successfully.
  • Support the automated data handling processes by ensuring correct labeling and safe transfer of data.
  • Software & System Operations
  • Start, stop, and monitor measurement software in coordination with the driver.
  • Handle system configurations and assist with technical troubleshooting when necessary.
  • Use remote desktop connections and other digital tools to support operations.
  • Team Coordination
  • Maintain clear communication with the driver and local coordinator regarding route progress, data status, and system conditions.
  • Follow established operating procedures and contribute to improving workflow efficiency.

Key Requirements

  • Strong attention to detail and situational awareness.
  • Comfortable working in a moving vehicle for extended periods.
  • Basic computer literacy (file management, data transfer, use of monitoring tools).
  • Ability to focus for long durations and follow structured procedures.
  • Team-oriented mindset with good communication skills.

Preferred qualifications

  • Previous experience in data acquisition, ADAS, or automotive testing projects.
  • Familiarity with measurement software, sensor systems, or data logging tools.
  • Understanding of file systems and data backup processes.
  • Technical background (engineering, IT, or related field).

Work Environment

  • Field-based role involving full-day test drives and close teamwork with the driver.
  • May require flexible hours or route-based scheduling with frequent travels.
  • Work conducted in prototype or specialized vehicles with confidential technology.
