About micro1
micro1 is a data lab that helps AI labs & Enterprises train foundational models and agents. We provide frontier evaluations and reinforcement learning environments to improve LLM capabilities, as well as contextual evaluations to monitor and improve AI agents in enterprise settings.
Our AI recruiting agent sources and vets domain experts for our data platform that enables rapid production of high-quality training data. Our research spans high-value, specialized domains (legal, medical, finance, coding, etc.), where expert-level data is the hardest to produce and most valuable for advanced model performance. Our pipeline performance system ensures both quality and velocity.
Role Title: Digital Artist
Role Type: Contractor

micro1 is engaging Digital Artists to contribute their creative and technical expertise to a unique project focused on evaluating and enhancing AI-generated images. In this role, you'll apply your expertise to help train next-generation AI systems. Your work will shape how models learn, reason, and perform through high-quality, real-world input. No prior experience in AI is required — your domain knowledge is what matters. This opportunity is ideal for those who excel in visual analysis, detailed critique, and clear communication, leveraging both original creations and digital photography skills to advance the state of AI image modeling.
Scope of Work
Upload your own original digital images or photographs in line with provided project specifications.
Conduct side-by-side evaluations of your artwork against AI-generated counterparts, documenting every visible difference and deviation.
Identify and articulate issues related to anatomy, color, lighting, perspective, texture, and fine detail.
Detect and describe common AI artifacts, including warped anatomy, smeared or broken textures, inconsistent shadows, and irregular reflections or text.
Compose concise, visually precise written feedback using industry-standard terminology to describe each flaw, referencing specific locations within images.
Deliver thorough, methodical reviews, prioritizing accuracy and visual detail over speed to maintain consistent quality across all assignments.
Collaborate with project coordinators and other contributors to ensure comprehensive image assessment and feedback alignment.
Preferred Qualifications
Located in the United States, with valid authorization to contract within the country.
Minimum of 2 years’ experience in digital art, retouching, compositing, 3D rendering, graphic design, color grading, or photography, with a portfolio of original works.
Proficiency in image editing and creation tools such as Photoshop, Lightroom, Procreate, Blender, or similar platforms.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with emphasis on descriptive and technical visual vocabulary.
Demonstrated ability to detect subtle differences and accurately identify artifacts unique to AI-generated images.
Basic understanding of AI image generation processes and knowledge of typical failure points (e.g., Midjourney, Stable Diffusion, Firefly, Flux experience is a plus).
Experience in image evaluation, data annotation, or quality assurance in creative or technical projects is advantageous.
