TasteMakers is a curated network of designers, creative technologists, and AI-native makers working on projects with leading AI labs, tech companies, and brands. We're on a mission to end AI slop.
We're looking for frontend engineers, design engineers, and interactive developers who care about the details most engineers skip: spacing rhythm, typography, animation easing, hover states, accessibility, and overall visual polish. You might build production-quality product interfaces, or immersive, motion-rich campaign experiences with WebGL and Three.js. Either way, you're as comfortable reading a Figma spec as you are debugging a layout in the browser, and you ship finished work, not prototypes.
This is a general pool for frontend, design engineering, and interactive development experts. Qualified engineers are matched to active, paid projects as they open.
Remote and async, as an independent contractor. Commitment: 15-40 hours per week.
What you will do
- Build polished, high-fidelity interfaces from design specs, prompts, or reference sites, with strong attention to responsiveness, accessibility, and motion
- Build interactive websites, campaign microsites, and experimental experiences from creative concepts, including WebGL/Three.js scenes, canvas graphics, and scroll-driven motion
- Create interactive components and micro-interactions: hover effects, transitions, scroll behaviors, loading states, and animation systems
- Partner with art directors and designers to work out how to technically execute ambitious ideas, and optimize for smooth frame rates and fast load times
- Use AI coding tools to generate and modify code, then evaluate where the output falls short visually, structurally, or systemically
- Review and refactor AI-generated frontend code toward production standards, and document failure modes clearly
- Build example implementations that help AI systems learn what high-quality frontend and interactive execution looks like
Requirements
- 3+ years of professional frontend or interactive development experience shipping real interfaces or experiences
- Strong proficiency in at least one modern framework or platform: React (Next.js, Vite), Vue, Svelte, Angular, SwiftUI, Jetpack Compose, or HTML/CSS/vanilla JS
- Deep comfort with CSS and/or Tailwind for complex, responsive layouts
- A strong eye for design and implementation fidelity: typography, grid, timing, and motion that match a high creative bar
- Figma fluency and an understanding of design systems
- Comfortable with AI-native workflows (Cursor, Claude Code, Copilot, v0, or similar) and able to tell when they get things wrong
- Strong written English for code review, documentation, and structured critique
- Bonus: Three.js/WebGL, shaders, or creative coding; agency experience partnering directly with art or creative directors; accessibility expertise (WCAG); or cross-platform (web + native) experience
Application
Tell us about yourself and share your portfolio or GitHub link. ~10 min
Skills test
We care about craft in the browser, not just clean code. Share live interfaces or interactive experiences you've built and the code behind them, and tell us exactly what you built and with which tools. ~10 min
